Assistant Director
Born in Miami Florida, Tommy Greenwell came to Mowglis as a Cub in 1993. One of his biggest achievements as a Cub was making it onto the Red Ribbon Trip. One of the most memorable experiences as a Denite was being part of a Racing Crew Tie on Crew Day. After one year on the Junior staff, baseball kept Tommy away from Mowglis for a few summers. Tommy returned to Mowglis as a Senior Counselor in 2002, and has only missed one summer since. Even in his summers not spent at Mowglis, Tommy always made it back to cheer for the crews on Crew Day. He has been to 18 consecutive crew days…and counting.
Throughout his experience at Mowglis, Tommy has worn many hats and filled many roles. As a Dorm Counselor, Tripmaster, Yearling Program Leader, year round staff and finally becoming the Assistant Director. Tommy has many years at Mowglis but has also worked for other camps. The City Kids Wilderness Project in Jackson Hole Wyoming in 2005, as NOLS course instructor in the winter of 2007 . He spent the spring as an environmental educator for the Don Lee Center in Arapahoe, North Carolina. Tommy graduated with a B.A. in Outdoor Education and Leadership from Sterling College in 2007. By the end of his college career, Tommy had been is 46 out of the 50 states, with the only exceptions being Hawaii, Akaska, Washington State and Oregon.
Tommy lives on the grounds at Mowglis for most of the year and spends winters in Vermont. In his free time Tommy loves to be out in the elements ice climbing. When asked about how to prepare for ice climbing, Tommy’s response was “you have to prepare year round for those three or four months of good ice. Fall hiking in the rain is one of the best ways to test yourself and to get ready for nature’s harsh winter elements.” Tommy experience at Mowglis has taken him many places around the country, south of the border to Mexico, and within the ranks at camp.
