2017 Session Dates
Final Weekend: August 12-13
8:00 PM (arrive at or around 7:30) – Candlelight Chapel Service followed by the Candleboat Ceremony when all campers float boats they have made, powered by candles, out into Newfound Lake.
Sunday, August 13
9:30 AM (arrive at or around 9:00) – Mrs. Holt’s Day Awards Ceremony. Campers depart at 11:30.

Keeping in Touch With Your Camper(s) During the Summer:
Communications from the Campers: Parents are assured of at least one letter from their son each week, as all campers are required to turn in a letter to gain admittance to lunch on Sunday. Nothing like a little motivation! To encourage additional communication from your son, equip him with postcards that are good for jotting quick notes each day or so. Don’t forget to send plenty of stamps, envelopes & writing paper.

Each camper has his own mailbox, where his mail is deposited each morning. For first time campers, it’s nice to have frequent mail, so enlist additional relatives or friends to send mail as well, but we suggest not overdoing it as it is important for campers to be able to focus on the fun they are having at camp. Letters don’t have to be long, as most campers seem to enjoy the quantity of mail!
You can email your son by emailing [email protected] and putting his name in the subject line. We print and distribute all parent emails at 6:30 PM daily. Campers do not have computer access to reply to these messages. One of the most important experiences camp provides is for the boys to gain some independence. If they are getting and sending communications every day, they are less likely to gain the full effect of this experience.
When writing to your son, it’s a good idea to keep your letters from home upbeat and “newsy” without making your son feel as though he is missing out on tons of fun. Try to avoid phrases like, “We miss you terribly, it is so lonely and we can hardly stand it here without you,” but rather, “We know you are having a wonderful experience,” or “You are so fortunate to be at camp.”
During the summer, every other day, we post pictures of camp life on our Facebook profile, which is called “Nick Robbins (Mowglis Profile for Parents)”. This is a profile just for camper parents to be friends with and see camp photos.

Camp Mowglis 2017 Uniforms
We use a camp outfitter called “Everything Summer Camp“. When you order the uniform, you’ll do so from their website. The items will ship to you unless you’d prefer to have them come to camp. You can find the packing list online HERE, in the Parent Handbook, as well as on the Everything Summer Camp website.
In addition to the uniform clothing, Everything Summer Camp sells pretty much everything your son will need for camp. Please note that when you go to their website, you need to click the turquoise rectangle that says “Get Your Camp Gear”. (See red arrow below)
*A note about trunks and such: Campers at Mowglis unpack into the cubbies (we call them bureaus) which are next to their bed. Unlike may camps, the campers don’t live out of a trunk, so what you pack his belongings in will only be used to transport his stuff to camp. Therefore, a duffel bag, soft trunk, hard trunk, or even a suitcase can work.
Crew Weekend: August 4-6
Crew Weekend is also a parent visiting opportunity. Beginning in the fourth week of camp, the boys will begin training for the annual Crew Races that are held on the second Parents Weekend. It is an exciting time as the boys train within their respective Blue or Red teams to earn a position on the Racing Crew, Second Form, or First Form teams. Competitive spirits run high in the several days leading up to the races, with milestone events such as the Crew Bonfire, which is held the night before the big race, and the Blue & Red Parade, where the teams march to the lakefront to kick off the event. Be sure to inquire of your son if he is a Blue or Red team member!
Race Day is August 6th, and this is a long event which starts at 2:00 pm and goes until 9:15. Parents, alumni, and guests will park on the “Upper BallField” and will walk down a wooded trail. We will have shuttle service running for folks with limited mobility. Please leave your car with everything you’ll need for the day & evening as going back to your car will be a hike! We suggest wearing sturdy shoes for walking on uneven surfaces, sunblock, and even a flashlight for the evening. We hope to see you for this exciting weekend!
A Crew Weekend Primer
• Red vs. Blue: The camp is divided into two crew teams. Every boy is assigned to a team. If a camper has had a family member who attended Mowglis at any point during our first 112 years, that boy will be assigned to the same team his familial predecessor was on.
• Bonfire: On Friday night prior to race day, we have a large fire in Grey Brother’s Field. At the top of the fire are hung both red and blue bandannas. Legend has it that the color of the bandanna that burns first will be the color of the Crew who will win. Rowers of the Red and Blue team Race Crew are announced at the bonfire on the night before race day.
• Bring a noise maker. There’s lots of fun to be had cheering on your team.
• Try to find the finish line ref. at the waterfront so you can hound him for immediate results!
