More Than a Camp—A Tradition of Growth & Adventure.
At Mowglis, boys step away from screens and distractions to experience genuine friendships, adventure, and personal growth. With only 110 campers each summer, every boy is known, mentored, and encouraged to push his limits in a supportive environment.
The day begins with a structured routine that teaches self-discipline and responsibility, from making beds to preparing for the day ahead.
A nutritious meal fuels the body and mind, while campers sign up for the day’s activities, encouraging independence and decision-making.
Each camper plays a role in maintaining the camp’s cleanliness and order, fostering teamwork and accountability.
Campers commit to a chosen skill—whether archery, swimming, or woodcraft—learning focus, discipline, and perseverance.
Daily sign-up activities offer variety and excitement, from canoeing to creative arts, giving your son the freedom to explore his passions.
Shared meals reinforce camaraderie and connection, helping campers build lifelong friendships in a tech-free environment.
A structured quiet hour encourages reading, journaling, or relaxation, nurturing emotional well-being.
Proud of a tidy dorm and aiming for an ice cream reward, you organize, make your bed, and sweep. Inspection scores a 9—next time, no forgotten shower caddy!
Continued practice builds confidence and mastery in key skills, with recognition through the prestigious Mowglis ribbon system.
Campers choose their own afternoon adventure, whether it’s team sports, creative arts, or wilderness exploration.
The all-camp swim is a free swim where everyone jumps into the lake. Without instruction, campers can enjoy the water as they like—floating on a raft with a buddy or just relaxing—before heading back to change for dinner.
A strong sense of community is fostered over a wholesome meal, sharing stories and experiences.
After ensuring your uniform looks presentable, you walk to the flag and line up. The camp holds a formal military-style colors ceremony, complete with a bugle playing as the flag is lowered.
From camp-wide games to storytelling around the fire, evenings bring tradition, leadership, and laughter.
A full day of adventure ends with a sense of accomplishment, as campers rest, recharge, and prepare for another transformative day.
Taps marks the end of the day as the camp falls silent and dark. After a brief moment to read and chat, campers drift off to sleep, ready for another adventure tomorrow.

I was a camper at Camp Mowglis back in the 60’s. I still have fond memories of my time spent there and are using the life lessons from my time spent there. In this day and age of social media seven weeks away in beautiful New Hampshire is the perfect getaway. Good Hunting!
The summer of 2013 was my son's first at Camp Mowglis, and I was worried as he was 13 and had never been away to camp before. I was looking for a camp that would have a supportive environment, yet be challenging enough to help my son transition from a boy to a young man. Well, I couldn't have made a better choice than Camp Mowglis! There are not enough words to express how grateful I am for this wonderful place. It is truly like a big extended family. Thomas LOVED his summer there and cannot wait to return for a second year. My only regret is that I didn't find out about it until he was 13. I wish he had started going there earlier. I really cannot say enough about this place. I truly believe it is one of the best experiences you can provide for your son over the summer. I HIGHLY recommend it.
My sons started going to Camp Mowglis when they were 8 and 12 years old. We live in France and my youngest barely spoke English. The first year, he was signed up for just half the summer. When I came to visit them after 3 weeks, my youngest said that if he couldn't stay until the end of the summer, he would never speak to me again! 10 years later, at age 18, he still goes back as a junior counselor. My oldest has also been a member of the senior staff. Mowglis has been wonderful for my children. In spite of being and all boys camp, there is something maternal about it. Everyone knows everyone, no one gets lost in the crowd, all are taken care of. Many parents are hesitant to send their children to a seven week camp. In seven weeks, kids really have the time to let go of any family problems they might have. They have ample time to try all of the activities and make deep friendships. My children have never thought it too long. In fact, they think that an additional week would be cool. At the end of every summer, I can see how much they have grown up, become more independent and self confident. They have really absorbed the good values that camp teaches. During many summers, my children were able to experience many activities (hiking, camping, axemen-ship,sailing) in a safe and encouraging environment. Speaking of environment, there are no video games, phones, ipods allowed in camp. Children are able to have several weeks without screens in their faces. They can get "unhooked". Social relationships are the priority. As a result, kids make friends for life. Camp is on a beautiful lake surrounded by pines, the staff are as nice as could be and the values that camp exemplifies are humane and respectful of the environment. I highly recommend Camp Mowglis.
My attendance to Mowglis as a camper (1952-1956) and as a member of the staff as rifle instructor (1961 &1 1962) molded my life. I can not say enough about this "School of the Open". As a retired teacher I have seen a lot of programs for young people. The program "curriculum" at Mowglis is, by far the best to teach character, confidence, maturity and knowledge of things practical in the context of having a really fun summer. A boy will have the experience of learning his limits and at the same time expanding them. He will grow physically, become very healthy because of living 24/7 mostly out of doors, learn skills from swimming, rowing, tennis, nature, environment, hiking, camping, to even singing. The list is long. Mowglis creates responsible mature young men. It did for me and for my sons who followed me there over the years.
I am a legacy Mowglis graduate (1969) with a great uncle, cousins, and a son all Mowglis alumni as well. Every one of us would say without hesitation that it is the single most important maturing influence of our lives. You don't just "go to camp" for the summer, you live the "Mowglis Way" while there and beyond. This is truly the exceptional growth experience through which boys begin the purposeful journey to adulthood with tremendous achievement, pride, and FUN together along the way.

Common Questions About the Mowglis Experience
The name “Mowglis” is derived from the man-cub in The Jungle Book stories by Rudyard Kipling. The camp’s founder, Elizabeth Ford Holt, received permission from Kipling to use his characters as inspiration for camp traditions established in 1903. Kipling advised that “Mowglis” is pronounced with “Mow” sounding like “cow,” and the plural is formed by adding a silent “s.”
Camp Mowglis is situated in East Hebron, New Hampshire, on the shores of Newfound Lake, nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains.
Mowglis is owned and operated by the Holt-Elwell Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the camp’s mission and traditions.
Campers reside in open-air dormitories with peers of similar age. Each camper is assigned a bunk and shelves for personal belongings. While trunks or duffle bags are used for packing, trunks are stored away after unpacking for the duration of the camp.
Yes, campers have the autonomy to select from 16 different activities. They sign up for instructional sessions in their chosen activities and have open periods to explore other interests. This approach encourages skill development and personal growth.
Absolutely! Campers participate in various trips, including hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, and kayaking. These excursions are tailored to the age and ability of the campers, ensuring safety and enjoyment for all skill levels.
While written mail is the standard form of communication, exceptions are made for international campers. Parents can email their sons and receive replies or schedule appropriate times for phone calls, typically during dinner hours.

If your son has outgrown Mowglis uniform items (aka Mow-Trow) that are still in good shape, please add them to this spreadsheet. If you’re looking for Mow-Trow or other gear (hiking boots, backpacks, etc.), you can check out this spreadsheet, and if you find what you’re looking for, contact the parent who posted it up and either arrange for shipping (or to pick it up if you live in the same area).
The best way to pay for shipping will be for the family with the items to box them up and bring them to a UPS Store and have the parent receiving the items call the store with their credit card number. That is how we send lost and found items at the end of the summer, and it works quite well. Please note when items have been claimed once they have been. Any unclaimed items can be brought to camp on arrival day or shipped to camp.
