Boys Summer Camp Near Maine

Give your son the gift of a truly memorable summer at Mowglis boys’ summer camp near Maine. Our overnight summer camp for kids aged 7 to 15 is just a short two-and-a-half-hour drive from Portland. We offer a traditional camping experience in a safe, supervised environment. Our sleepaway camp program provides the perfect opportunity for your son to grow physically and emotionally away from home. Here, he can meet new people and learn essential life skills while enjoying exciting outdoor experiences.

Unplug at Sleepaway Camp

Our rustic, unplugged summer camp on the shores of Newfound Lake by the White Mountains provides the perfect escape from another stagnant, screen-filled summer in Maine. At overnight camp, your son can reset his internal clock and enjoy the beauty and wonders of nature. During his time at sleepaway camp, he can take a deep breath and relax, enjoying the mental and physical benefits only time spent in green spaces can provide.

Overnight Summer Camp Fun for All Ages

Mowglis’ unique program creates the perfect environment for building lasting friendships and learning essential life skills. Each summer, we host a tight-knit community of about 100 boys from all ages and backgrounds. Our curriculum is designed to give children in every age group the support they need to have a successful, enjoyable camp experience they will look forward to each summer:

Boys 7-9

Our Cub program offers younger boys a shorter 3-week camping season, a higher counselor-to-camper ratio, a more flexible schedule, and more age-appropriate camping activities. It’s perfect for inexperienced children who are not used to spending time away from home.

Boys 10-15

The Mowglis Pack program lasts seven weeks, allowing boys to immerse themselves in camp life. Campers follow a regular daily schedule, earning ribbons as they reach activity goals and learn essential life skills. As boys progress from the Toomai dorm at age 10 to the Den at age 14, we prepare them to serve as future camp leaders.

Boys 15-16

The Yearling program is designed to inspire boys to grow their leadership potential and earn an invitation to return as part of our Junior Staff. It includes fast-paced, challenging, and fun outdoor activities beyond Mowglis’ campgrounds, such as backpacking, whitewater kayaking, community service projects, wilderness first aid, and CPR.

The Mow-Trow Gear Exchange: Smart & Sustainable Gear Sharing:

If your son has outgrown Mowglis uniform items (aka Mow-Trow) that are still in good shape, please add them to this spreadsheet. If you’re looking for Mow-Trow or other gear (hiking boots, backpacks, etc.), you can check out this spreadsheet, and if you find what you’re looking for, contact the parent who posted it up and either arrange for shipping (or to pick it up if you live in the same area).

The best way to pay for shipping will be for the family with the items to box them up and bring them to a UPS Store and have the parent receiving the items call the store with their credit card number. That is how we send lost and found items at the end of the summer, and it works quite well. Please note when items have been claimed once they have been. Any unclaimed items can be brought to camp on arrival day or shipped to camp.

Keeping Campers Safe: Our Tick Management Approach:

How do you manage the threat of ticks?

While we have fewer ticks in NH than in more southern New England states, we still take ticks extremely seriously.

Here are some big-picture ways we protect our campers from ticks:

  • Our defense starts with staff education – all campers and counselors are taught what, where, and when to look for, and we have the campers do tick checks at least daily and every time they’ve been out in the bushes.
  • If a tick is found embedded on a camper while at camp, he will go to the nurse for removal and bite-site mapping, and then the tick is saved, and the camper will be monitored daily for any signs of infection.
  • If there is a parental desire or signs of infection, the tick is sent to a lab for testing.
  • We have bottles of bug spray throughout camp and on all trips.
  • We cut back brush to minimize the chance of ticks hopping onto folks as they walk around camp.
